Chris, Ruth and Tanja set off on the journey to Duisburg at the beginning of November, where this year's general assembly of the German Tour Guide Association took place:
In addition to many impressions of a city that we honestly did not have on our radar until now, and which consistently surprised us positively, we got to know many new colleagues and also reflected on possible future cooperation opportunities between Reiseleiter Austria and the German Tour Guide Association. We gained Harald Jung, Chairman of the German Association, as a new member and will probably be able to welcome him soon at one of our next meetings. Our board colleague Tanja Schachinger was elected to the extended board of the Tour Guide Association and will in the future work there to represent the interests of the Austrian association members in the German association. It is also planned that we will invite our colleagues from the North to a joint training session in Vienna already next year.
During our time together, many more ideas emerged as we climbed the Tiger & Turtle sculpture, explored the largest inland port in Europe during a harbor tour, discovered the highlights of Duisburg on foot with our fantastic guide Manuela, and, in the end, personally tasted some delicious beers with the brewmaster of the Webster Brewery.
Our November Jour fixe took us this time to the private art collection of Arik Brauer in his villa in Währing. A former assistant of the artist guided us through a selection of his works, told us a lot about the artist, his life, his family, and also shared some interesting anecdotes. Afterwards, we ended the evening with mulled wine and roasted goose at the Meierei in Türkenschanzpark. This event was very well received and turned out to be our most attended Jour fixe ever, which of course makes us very happy!
